Internet Addiction

There are many benefits to playing video games such as improved problem solving skills, reading, hand-eye coordination, and spacial recognition. It is also a great way to be creative, use our imagination, and make social connections. Video games can be fun, relaxing, rewarding, and give us a break from the stressors of daily life.

It’s also important to be honest about the dangers of video games. Video Game companies hire psychologists to create reward systems to keep players hooked. This combined with the social component of gaming can turn a gaming hobby into a gaming addiction.

This may be a possibility for you if you feel a loss of control and lose track of time when gaming. You have repeatedly and unsuccessfully tried to control, limit, or cut back on the amount of time you are playing. You find yourself restless or irritable when not behind the screen. You minimize how much you play when talking to non-gamers. Your work or academics have suffered as a result.

Gaming doesn’t need to be a negative part of your life. Therapists trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are available to help you develop a healthy relationship with Video Games. At Revolutionary Change Counseling, our team of therapists in Apollo Beach, Miami, Jacksonville and Orlando are here to help.

Jesse Munach, LMHC specializes in this form of therapy to help get you back to a life free from internet addictions.
