Labor Day Weekend Emotions
Can you sense it? Football season is about to commence this holiday weekend! College, Pros, Highschool and Pee Wee leagues will be in full swing across the U.S. Constant images of quarter backs throwing to wide receivers will be seen on TV screens across the world. Fans are going to have a roller coaster of emotions. When a fan’s team is winning, they feel elated, joyful and full of energy but if their team is losing they appear to experience some unpleasant feelings. Simple pleasant and unpleasant feelings come from an ongoing process inside you called interoception. Interoception is your brain’s representation of all sensations from your internal organs and tissues, the hormones in your blood, and your immune system. Sit back for a moment and think about what activities are going on in your body right this minute. Your insides are constantly in motion, for instance, your heart is pumping and sending blood through your veins and arteries. Your lungs are filling and emptying. Your stomach is digestating food. The interoceptive activity produces the spectrum of basic feelings from pleasant to unpleasant, from calm to jittery, and even completely neutral. Interoception is known to be the origins of feelings, furthermore, the science behind interoception grounded in the wiring of your brain will help you see yourself in a new light.
