Taking the first step is the hardest and we totally understand.
Coming into an office and sharing your inner most thoughts and feelings may not be on your list of new things to do. For many people it can be very unnerving, but I promise you if you take the time to explore, transform and heal yourself mentally and spiritually your life can change. Making the decision to seek therapy is courageous and it is the first step on your path to change. Therapy is a very empowering and liberating journey as you begin to move the needle and make revolutionary changes in your life.
First you must ask yourslef these very honest questions:
Am I unable to function daily because of a challenge or persistent problem that prevents me from being my most effective self?
Have I lost interest in some of the things I once enjoyed?
Do I get tired of having the same conversation over and over without any change?
Am I able to set and meet my current life goals?
Am I satisfied in my significant relationships with family/friends?
Am I stressed and overwhelmed to the point where I feel “stuck”?
Have you answered yes to any of these questions?
If these challenges seem too big to handle on your own and you are ready to do something about it, it’s definitely time to talk and make a change.
People often ask this question prior to coming to therapy. The reality is that millions of everyday
people just like you need help from time to time. Unfortunately, there is a stigma associated with
mental health; however, more recently the need for mental health care and the access for services
are more common. Your mind, your resolve and emotions are so important. It’s a part of your
total well-being and wellness. Just as any area of your physical health, your mental health needs
just as much care. If you had a severe wound on your arm and it needed medical attention,
wouldn’t you see a doctor right away? Well our mental health needs that same amount of
urgency. An emotional or mental wound can impact you greatly, and in some instances may not
heal without the proper professional help or support.
Therapy is successful if you are consistent with your treatment plan progress. Once we establish
the purpose of what your needs are, your therapist will check-in with you at each session to
monitor your treatment progress. Progress is determined by a decrease of symptoms surrounding
the event that initially brought you into therapy as well as your ongoing self-care. Our team of
thoroughly trained clinical professionals will do an ongoing assessment of your mental and
emotional wellness to help meet your goals. We are here to help you acknowledge any personal
victory along the way.
Absolutely. Finding the right therapist is so important as you begin your journey. We want you
to feel empowered in taking the necessary steps for change by matching you with the best
therapist that meets your needs. Our eclectic team of quality skilled therapists have various
specialties that we are able to meet a plethora of mental health needs.
Our therapists are quality Masters-Level Clinicians that are licensed by the Florida Department
of Health. This means that they have successfully completed hundreds of hours in direct client
clinical work and have been supervised to develop their solid clinical skill set. All licensed
clinicians are required bi-annually to renew their license with the board of health and must be
in good standing with all trainings required from the board to become a therapist with
Revolutionary Change Counseling. Additionally, our quality professional therapists have
specialty trainings and certifications to treat various mental health challenges or life concerns.
No matter what brings you to Revolutionary Change for counseling, our clinicians
first need to get to know you and your family. We start by asking a lot of
questions such as:
What brings you to therapy today?
From your perspective, what is the problem?
When did this problem begin?
Did something specific trigger the problem?
How does this problem make you feel?
Does anything make the problem better or worse?
Can you tell me about your life outside of this relationship?
In addition to these and many other questions, our counselors also watch for non-
verbal cues. A lot gets communicated in families without a word being spoken.
Our counselors are trained to pick up on how you and your family interact and
respond with body language.
After the first couple of sessions, your family and therapist will be ready to get
down to work. Your sessions will be a time to problem solve. You and your family
members can talk about your current situation, and the therapist will use her
expertise to offer ideas that might help resolve the problem.
Between sessions, you and your family may need to do some homework. This
means that you’ll have to act upon the ideas discussed during your counseling.
Granted, some of your homework might be challenging, but the steps you’ll take
are designed to bring you closer to your goal. At follow-up sessions, you can freely
talk about your progress and your frustrations.
Needless to say, there is not a one-size-fits-all answer to this question. Your
unique circumstances and family dynamics will determine how many sessions are
necessary. Once your therapist has met with you and become familiar with your
situation, she may be able to give you a rough estimate, but that could change as
you and your family progress through counseling. Some families need only a few
months of therapy while others may require much longer. In either case the
objective is always the same—helping you build the life you want for yourself and
